Internship Requirements
In order to be eligible for internships at the MCO 294 (fieldwork) level, you must have already completed JMC 101 and JMC 110 or their equivalencies. If you seek JMC 484 (internship) credit, which is required for graduation, then you need to complete certain prerequisite classes before you begin the internship. Fall 2017- Video Production Internships
Brickhouse.tv and Heggarty Holdings team up to provide students with onsite and in-studio opportunities for advancement in their career field. Internship candidates will get hands-on experience by combining our network of corporate clientele with entertainment/event industry contacts, as well as include a broadcast and rehearsal studio to help design, create, and produce actual content that will be streamed over the internet.

Jim Heggarty owner of Heggarty Holdings has over 32 years of experience in Audio/Visual production and has worked directly with companies such as Presentation Services Audio Visual (PSAV), Video West, and Audio/Visual Concepts. Heggarty Holdings’ inventory of premier video switchers, matrix switchers and media servers are utilized for major clients from Heggarty Holdings such as Pandora Radio, Warner Brothers Studio Electronic Games Division, and Palo Alto Networks and a myriad of other A/V clientele across the country. This equipment will be available for candidates to sharpen their skills as well as give advanced students early job placement possibilities. Roger Belfiore is the owner of Brickhouse.tv, a local Media Company that has developed content for many major valley events as well as created media content for major label recording artist video tour packages. Brickhouse.tv started streaming out of the Brickhouse Theater, a previous music venue in downtown Phoenix owned by Belfiore. This venue featured local and national music as well as supported the downtown arts movement that was part of the original First Friday Artwalk. Belfiore supported local talent then and continues to through broadcasting onsite, live streaming events in such places as the downtown Cityscape development. INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION: Afternoon and evenings (2p-8p), 12 to 20 hours per week. Work with producers on nationally-syndicated show to handle various newsroom duties including: finding videos for the show, logging videos, researching stories, learning video licensing requirements, pulling graphics and assisting with studio production. Prior internship or news experience is a plus, as is studio production experience. Should have knowledge of FinalCutPro or similar editing software and associated computer skills. The Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) Department seeks talented, creative multimedia journalist extraordinaire to tell the story of student life at ASU including but not limited to highlighting student success and achievement, living on campus, student entrepreneurship, grants, students serving the community, outstanding performing and visual artists, etc. Under minimal supervision, reporters will be required to construct coherent, compelling stories using text, photos and video. Fall 2017- Video journalism Internship at CBS 5/KTVK in Phoenix- PAID
If you’re a current junior or senior in college, intern at the local 3TV and CBS 5 news stations. 3TV/CBS 5 and The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists are committed to developing photojournalism interns from colleges and accredited universities.

All of our interns receive the benefit of being assigned a mentor. The mentor will provide a platform to develop skills and experience. Our mentors will provide a learning partnership with our interns, and teach them all there is to know about the fascinating world of television and development of photojournalism (video) skills. Program will include traditional television news photojournalism, editing, sports – and more! This is a paid position (15 hours per week maximum schedule) and the student must be pre-approved for college credit. The Fall 2017 internship will run 15 weeks; August 28 through December 8, 2017.

The PR/Social Media intern will help azmyelomanetwork.org raise more awareness for its upcoming events: Cancer Caregivers Education Program® and Out Race Cancer™ through press coverage, celebrity and influencer outreach/management, and special events.

Fall 2017- Arizona Manufacturers Council Communications Internship- PAID
The Arizona Manufacturers Council (AMC) is the voice of manufacturing in Arizona and the official state affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers. From computer chips to potato chips, aerospace and defense to bioscience, alternative energy to photonics, Arizona manufacturers create the products that improve people’s everyday lives.

The AMC aims to promote and enhance a positive business climate for manufacturing and related industries that operate within Arizona, helping manufacturers thrive and create jobs in Arizona while competing in the global economy. The AMC is part of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and together the AMC and Chamber have been especially impactful in achieving key legislative victories for the manufacturing community in recent years. In addition to advocating for a policy agenda that helps Arizona manufacturers compete and create jobs, the AMC also hosts a series of events aimed at providing networking opportunities and discussing key issues impacting the manufacturing community.

The AMC is seeking an intern to create and execute a communications plan under the mentorship of AMC leadership and the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry staff. Through articles, columns, website content, blog posts, social and visual media, scripts and talking points, event collateral, and other communications tools, the intern will conduct journalistic research and develop informational and promotional content for the AMC on:

• Local, state, national, and international manufacturing news, trends, regulations, and public policy issues;
• Individual member companies’ business news, operations, and economic and community impact;
• Translate public policy issues relevant to Arizona manufacturers for diverse audiences including business owners, legislators and government leaders, as well as the general public.

The intern is also expected to attend and work the AMC and Chamber events whenever possible and to seek AMC member and Chamber leadership opportunities for maintaining a strong media presence. The intern should have a specific interest in the intersection of business and public policy, confidence to interact with manufacturing business leaders and staff, and a desire to understand manufacturing businesses and their positive role in the economy. A successful candidate is comfortable receiving direction, guidance, and constructive criticism from mentors and staff, while consistently taking initiative and working independently.

The internship will be approximately 16-24 hours (2-3 full business days) per week for at least one semester. The hourly wage is $12.50. Zocolo Public Square spring 2018 fellowship-PAID
The Cronkite School is accepting applications for student fellowships in sustainability journalism with Zócalo Public Square at ASU’s Santa Monica., Calif., bureau.

The fellowship will be offered in the spring 2018 semester with students working out of the Cronkite School bureau in Santa Monica. Fellows will work up to 40 hours a week for $10 an hour, producing content for the Zócalo website and its media partners, and assisting with Zocalo’s public events. Students also may apply to receive Cronkite internship credit for the fellowship. Students will be responsible for arranging their own housing. The Cronkite School will cover the cost of travel to and from Santa Monica.

Zócalo Public Square, a project of the Center for Social Cohesion at Arizona State University, is a not-for-profit Ideas Exchange that seeks to engage a new, young and diverse generation in the public square through a blend of live events and humanities journalism. It partners with educational, cultural and philanthropic institutions to present free, non-partisan public events and conferences in cities across the U.S. and beyond and to publish original daily journalism that is distributed to more than 100 media outlets nationwide.

Fellows may be graduate or undergraduate Cronkite students with an interest in sustainability, energy, the environment and related fields. Duties include generating story ideas, identifying and working with Zocalo contributors (who include journalists, scholars and non-writers), writing and editing articles for the website, working with media syndicate partners, building audiences for journalism and events through social and other media, and assisting with the planning and execution of public discussions and lectures on current affairs topics. Fellows will work with a small staff of writers and editors who produce new content daily for the website and its media partners and who solicit contributions from diverse people whose voices would otherwise go unheard. Strong editing skills are a must as are curiosity and energy. The successful applicant will be able to generate story ideas off the news that provide a different perspective on current topics and write and edit for voice. Some evening work is required. Fellows may have the opportunity to travel to Zócalo events in California and around the country. A car is not required but is recommended.

College juniors, seniors, and graduate students enrolled in a journalism or related degree program as of Nov. 1, are eligible. Previous newspaper journalism internships and/or experience as a journalist on a college newspaper are preferred. You need to be committed to a career in news journalism. Finding and hiring talented copy editors has always been challenging, but a world hungry for information needs copy editors more than ever. To help meet that need, the American Copy Editors Society has awarded scholarships to deserving students since 1999. Podcast Editing- PAID
The Arizona K12 Center is starting a podcast series for teachers. Our staff will be recording weekly podcasts in our office, located at 99 E Virginia Ave, Suite 100, Phoenix, AZ 85004, on a variety of education topics. We are located just off the Light Rail at the Encanto stop. We anticipate our podcasts being listened to on a teacher’s commute to/from school and therefore want each podcast to be edited down to approximately 20 minutes in length. The series will kick off on or around September 5, 2017 and we will air one podcast each week and it will run indefinitely.

We are looking for an experienced podcaster to edit the audio for our recorded podcasts and to meet with our staff to ensure that the edited content is consistent with our vision. Podcasts will be recorded weekly; therefore, we will require weekly editing. If you do not have the laptop and software necessary to edit the audio we may be able to provide it. The pay is $100 per podcast. USA and World Hip Hop Dance Championship Volunteers
The USA and World Hip Hop Dance Championships will be held in Phoenix in August. Volunteers are needed to run the media booth at the event from Aug. 4-12 at the Arizona Grand Resort near Baseline Rd. and The I-10 (near the Mills Mall).

Reporters from throughout the U.S. and even international media will attend the event. It would be great experience for a student who has the time to help out.

The Pac-12 Network is looking for students who are interested in working in various production positions throughout the fall 2017 and spring 2018 seasons. Sports include: football, soccer, volleyball, men’s/women’s basketball, baseball, softball, gymnastics. Positions include: runner, production assistant, stats, talent stats, spotter.

If you are interested in getting into the student production crew pool for the Pac-12 Network please do the following:

(1) By July 30, send to cronkitecareerservices@asu.edu an EMAIL listing your audio/video production experience.

(2) In that same EMAIL, list all of the sports that you are deeply familiar with where you know the rules and terminology. This could be through your experience as a player, coach, official, spectator, fan.

(5) If you worked in the Pac-12 Network pool in a previous semester, you must still submit this information by July 30.
