PRSA Publicity Summit
The 9th annual PRSA Publicity Summit will be held at ASU’s SkySong on Sept. 28, 2013.

There will be a temporary student special sale for the PRSA Publicity Summit for 50 percent off the ticket price. This makes tickets $50. General Description:
Under general direction, supports Arizona Farm Bureau’s overall content channels and specifically web site content and other media channels including social media; helps with a variety of computer, Web and/or multimedia, some graphics, motion graphics, audio and video production; helps design print materials and/or content materials to promote and support Arizona Farm Bureau programs and events; performs related duties as required.

Competencies required:
Requires experience and proficiency using social media marketing tools, excellent communication, writing, multi-tasking and organizational skills. Coursework in multimedia, some graphic design, communications and web content development is desirable. Creativity and flexibility and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential. Prior experience in a marketing/communication role desired but not required. Knowledge of and/or interest in Arizona agriculture a plus; represent small & large agriculture plus organic and conventional methods.

Skill and Ability to:
Operate a variety of computer platforms and operating systems including Mac OS and Windows; operate peripheral equipment including printers, CD and DVD burners and duplicators, scanners, digital and 35 mm cameras, digital video cameras, audio recording equipment, and digital projectors. Support effort to creatively translate abstract concepts into effective visual form in a variety of media; adapt graphics to fit needs of clients and target audience; utilize production tools to design, edit, and produce video, audio, and graphic materials; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; compose and edit written materials. The Role will include:
This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a yearlong internship program with a nationally recognized brand. As an intern, you will work closely with a dealer to gain and understanding of their business goals and then independently create a communications plan to improve brand awareness.

The role will include creating a promotion plan, budgeting and strategizing start to finish. The program is designed to give the intern the opportunity be creative and take ownership of the program. You will interact with the owner of a leading local business, a Fortune 500 company and a national advertising agency.

The New York Times

The New York Times offers 10-week summer internships to undergraduate and graduate college students who have decided on careers in journalism. Some internships are limited to seniors or graduate students; others also accept juniors. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

The Times began the program in 1984. In its first 17 years, it was aimed at members of minority groups who, because of race or ethnicity, had been historically excluded from opportunities in America’s newspaper industry. While the internships are now open to all applicants, the program remains an integral part of The Times’s commitment to recruit and hire as diverse and as highly qualified a staff as possible.

The salary for all internships is about $960 a week. Housing is available on the New York University campus for about $1,000 monthly. The program will begin on Monday, June 2, with a week of orientation to The Times in New York City.

Applications for the 2014 summer internship are accepted beginning June 1, 2013. The deadline to submit an application is 11:59 p.m. New York time on Oct. 31, 2013

The Denver Post

Interns work in several parts of the newsroom — as news or features reporters, online producers, photographers or graphic artists or designers. Denver Post interns are paid about $517 per week (housing and transportation to Denver are not included).

The Austin Statesman
The American-Statesman is an award-winning daily in the capital of Texas. We serve a metro area of 1.7 million people. The Boston Globe summer intern program began more than 50 years ago as an opportunity for college students interested in journalism to gain practical experience on a major newspaper.

The largest group of interns works in Metro on general assignment. Other intern reporters are assigned to Sports, Living/Arts, and Business. We also have intern positions in the Photography and Editorial Design departments, and on the copy desk. The copy editing position may be filled by a Newspaper Fund* intern, and a Health/Science position is provided through the Kaiser Foundation.** Internships are NOT limited to students with undergraduate journalism majors. All students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or who will be graduating in May or June may apply, as well as journalism graduate school students who have NOT had professional journalism experience.

An aptitude for newspaper work is the most important qualification for the internship. Applicants must have had at least one previous internship at a daily newspaper. Applicants must have a driver’s license.

Summer interns work as full-time employees for 12 weeks, between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Interns are paid a weekly wage, and shifts vary. An intern supervisor serves as a writing coach and there are weekly meetings with editors and staff members on a range of issues and topics pertaining to journalism.

An internship at the Orlando Sentinel will take you into the heart of the ultimate journalism class: a multiplatform newsroom where reporters and editors gather information in one of America’s newsiest metropolitan areas, then present it online and in print.

The Sentinel works with journalism schools in Florida and across the country in offering unpaid internships for academic credit in reporting, photography, videography and online producing. Reporting internships are available in Spanish-language journalism as well as in English.

To participate, students must be enrolled for internship credit at a college or university. The amount of time spent interning and the number of credits awarded vary by school.

Candidates must have completed basic skills courses and must have campus media experience. Internship or stringing experience is strongly preferred. Students interning as reporters or photographers must have the use of a car (the Sentinel will reimburse for mileage, tolls and parking), and photographers must have their own equipment.

In your internship inquiry, submit your cover letter and resume to each division that interests you; for instance, if you seek a position on the website or the TV operation, craft an e-mail to each. Moreover, the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul consistently rank among the best places to live. We select at least 10 candidates for paid 10-week internships each summer. Interns are paid the same as a first-year professional, which is $706 a week for the summer of 2014.This opportunity allows students to get real-world experience in a major daily news environment. Interested in working with some of the best journalists around? We offer 10 weeks of intensive, hands-on experience in a region where big stories are the norm. We place interns throughout the L.A. Times: Metro, Sports, Business, Features, Arts & Entertainment, Washington bureau, Photography, Design, Graphics and latimes.com. These are paid internships and summer placements usually run from mid-June to late August.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be actively working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree and must be eligible to work in the U.S. Graduates may qualify if you’ve finished school within six months of the start of the internship. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and access to a car in good working condition. Internships are for students who have not worked professionally as staff journalists. Broadcast Education Association (BEA)
The BEA is offering scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students interested in broadcasting. The awards range from $1500-$5000. Details of each scholarship and application instructions can be found here.

International Radio and Television Society Summer Fellowship (IRTS)
Want to spend a summer working in NYC and have someone else pay for travel housing and living expenses?
Take a close look at the IRTS fellowship. Deadline to apply is November 3.

The Summer Fellowship Program, the most notable student out-reach effort of IRTS, teaches up-and-coming communicators the realities of the business world through an expense-paid fellowship, which includes practical experience and career-planning advice. Each year college juniors, seniors and graduate students are selected nationwide to participate in the nine-week Summer Fellowship Program.

Association for Women in Sports Media (AWSM)
The application process for the 2014 Association for Women in Sports Media internship/scholarship program is now open. Students have until Oct. 31, 2013 to apply.

Applicants must be full-time female college students seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree during the 2013-14 school year. In order to apply, students must provide: basic contact information, a headshot, a letter of reference, contact information for three references, a resume, up to five clips/work samples and a short essay.
Membership in AWSM is not required, however, members pay $10 per application and non-members pay $20. Students also have the option of joining AWSM for $25 and then paying $10 for their applications.

Students can apply for internships in the following categories: newspaper/online, broadcast, public relations and magazines. Each applicant can apply in as few as one category and in as many as all four categories.
This summer will be the 25th year of the AWSM internship/scholarship program. AWSM has worked with nearly 40 different employers in the history of the program including long-time partners ESPN and Sports Illustrated.
Winners of the internships will be notified in December 2013/January 2014.

Photojournalism Scholarship- James Alan Cox Foundation
Founded in memory of James Alan Cox, a television photojournalist, The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists aims to provide financial support to student photographers of high school and college age. Through a variety of funding, including equipment purchases and scholarships for college and technical school classes, the foundation’s mission is to expand educational and developmental opportunities for student photographers demonstrating interest, talent and financial need.

Type of Awards:

Five (5) $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to five (5) college or technical school students, payable to their school. Four awards will be for video work while one will be for still photography.

Starting in 2013, one (1) $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to one (1) graduate student, payable to their school, for video work.

Deadline to apply is November 15, 2013.

Scholarship for PR Students- The Lagrant Foundation (TLF)
TLF is now accepting applications for the 2014 scholarship program. In 2014, TLF will award 40 scholarships to ethnically diverse college students pursuing degrees in marketing or public relations. For the first time in the history of the Foundation, the applications are now open to art, anthropology, communications, English, graphic design and sociology majors who are pursuing careers in the marketing/public relations industries.

These 40 students will be recognized at the 16th Anniversary Scholarship Donor Recognition Reception in Minneapolis on Monday, May 19, 2014. Of the 40 students, 20 undergraduate students will receive scholarships of $2,500 each and 20 graduate students will receive scholarships of $5,000 each. This is also the largest number of scholarships ever to be awarded in one year.

Scholarship winners will receive a trip to Minneapolis where they will participate in career building
activities including a welcome dinner with a keynote speaker, a daylong career development
workshop and a scholarship & donor recognition reception.

Undergraduate (current freshmen, sophomores, juniors and non-graduating seniors ONLY!) applicants meeting the
following criteria and completing the online application will be considered for The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF)
scholarship in the amount of $2,500.

Eligibility Criteria:
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Must be a member of one of the following ethnic groups: African American/Black, Asian American/Pacific
Islander, Hispanic/Latino or Native American/American Indian
• Must be a full-time student at a four-year, accredited institution, carrying a total of 12 units or more per
semester/quarter
• *Must have a minimum of 2.75 GPA (if you do not meet this requirement, please see the application
checklist below)
• MUST major in a field of study that has an emphasis in advertising, marketing, public relations or in anthropology, art, communications, English, graphic design, sociology while maintaining a career focus in advertising, marketing or public relations
• Must have AT LEAST ONE YEAR to complete his/her degree from the time the scholarships are awarded in May, 2014
• Recipients MUST be available from May 18, 2014 through May 20, 2014. If chosen, the applicant MUST attend TLF’s scholarship activities as noted at top of page to receive the scholarship. The applicant must make a one-year commitment to maintain contact with TLF to receive professional guidance and academic support

Science Journalism Award
The Science Journalism Student Award enables students pursuing a science or medical journalism degree to attend the SfN annual meeting. Two awards are granted each year.

Recipients get complimentary meeting registration, four nights’ lodging, and $750 to help defray the expenses of attending the meeting. Additionally, recipients are assigned a mentor who is an experienced professional journalist covering the annual meeting. SfN makes every effort to pair awardees with a mentor based on mutual interests in print or broadcast journalism. Marwan Osman, Co-Chair for the Communications & Recruitment Committee of Student Health Outreach for Wellness (S.H.O.W.) community health initiative, is actively searching for a motivated and reliable Journalism student to act as the internet media coordinator. More specifically, if you were to accept this volunteer position you would be tasked with:

Blogging: Write about the weekly/monthly progress of S.H.O.W. This blog will then be posted on the website. It is an inside look into the organization and the experience with out giving too much sensitive information.

Social Media: We hope to set up a Twitter account, Facebook page (and any other relevant SM sources). This will help to increase awareness, act as advertisement, and educate. We will also eventually set up a YouTube channel once the clinic opens.
