Summer 2013- PBS NewsHour, Virginia
The Desk Assistant (DA) position is part of a six-month entry-level program aimed at providing practical experience in a broadcast news setting. The DAs are exposed to all aspects involved in producing a nightly television news program. This position is divided into rotations among the different units that compose the NewsHour: research, newsroom, tape library, reporting, and production. Over the course of the program, each of the 8 Desk Assistants hired will work in 3 of the 6 different rotations for a period of two months each. They also act as support staff for Senior Producers, Associate Producers, Reporters and Production Assistants, by answering phones, sorting mail, distributing paper and other administrative tasks. Finally, Desk Assistants will attend a series of breakfasts with various members of our organization including correspondents, producers and reporters.

Murray Sports Writing Scholarship- $5,000
The Murray Scholar Scholarship Program offers five (5) $5,000 journalism scholarships through a nationwide essay competition, and first and foremost, to those students pursuing a career in sports writing.

Website Content Writer Assistant, Barrett Honors College
Fall Assistant position working on completing tasks related to the Barrett web site and online communications. Duties include helping with the organization of materials for use on the Barrett web site, to include photos, videos, press releases and profiles. Special consideration will be given to applicants with previous experience working with media on the web (WordPress, Flickr and Picasa).
Skills in image/video editing (Photoshop, Windows Live Movie Maker, Final Cut Pro) and photography a plus. Applicants should be comfortable with basic composition and copywriting, and most importantly, have a critical eye for detail.
Hours: 20 per week
Pay $10.00 hourly.
