ASU Women’s Basketball is hosting Cronkite Day on Sunday February 17 vs. Colorado. Spring or Summer 2013- Public Relations Intern- Allison & Partners

Requirements/Skills:
Public relations interns will be actively enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a university public relations, marketing, or other related program. The individual must demonstrate the ability to undertake basic public relations writing assignments, adapt to a fast-paced work environment, possess an understanding of basic media relations skills, interact professionally with clients, and exercise good judgment. A working knowledge of computers, as well as word processing and database management software is necessary. Interns will be mentored by the entire Allison+Partners team including senior executives. Interns will work between 20-25 hours a week. Prior relevant experience is required. Compensation is $10 per hour.

Responsibilities:
We are seeking a paid intern to work with us on a wide variety of client projects. These include, but are not limited to:

•Draft basic public relations materials including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, client meeting summaries, status reports and other materials as directed.
-Assist with media outreach, including pitching and follow-ups.
•Attend and participate in client meetings, media training sessions, presentations, and brainstorming sessions as directed.

Up to $2000 for students interested n photojournalism. The deadline for entries is April 15, 2013, 12:00 a.m., Eastern Time.

Applicants must:
-•Be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. or Canada or have been accepted at a four-year institution to complete suspended studies.
•-Provide evidence of an aptitude for photojournalism as well as academic ability and financial need.

Lou and Carole Prato Sports Reporting Scholarship
Louis F. Prato has dedicated more than 30 years to RTDNA and RTDNF. Lou served as secretary of the RTDNF Board of Trustees, and for more than 20 years he was treasurer of the RTDNA Board of Directors.Lou has worked as a news director, a journalism professor, a consultant, and Director of the Penn State All Sports Museum. Lou and his wife Carole live near his alma mater, Penn State University. He is the author of The Penn State Football Encyclopedia.

In recognition of his service to RTDNA and RTDNF, and his commitment to excellence in journalism, the Lou and Carole Prato Sports Reporting Scholarship was established in 2001. It is awarded to a journalism student who brings Lou’s journalism values to covering sports.

Mike Reynolds Journalism Scholarship
Mike Reynolds, who died in 1988 of a brain tumor at age 45, was assignment editor and then managing editor at KCCI-TV in Des Moines, Iowa. Trustees of the fund to honor his memory require applicants for this award to be enrolled in journalism school and have good writing ability, excellent grades, a dedication to the news business, strong interest in pursuing a career in electronic journalism and a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

Pete Wilson Scholarship
The Pete Wilson Journalism Scholarship was established in 2007 by Wilson’s friends and colleagues. The scholarship is granted to an undergraduate or graduate journalism student from the Bay area who shares Wilson’s commitment to ethical, responsible journalism. The 2013 Pete Wilson Scholarship is open to Undergraduates and will alternate each year between undergraduates and graduate applicants. Deadline to apply is May 31, 2013.

Carole Simpson Scholarship
Carole Simpson is a former member of the Radio Television Digital News Foundation Board of Trustees. She established the Carole Simpson Scholarship to encourage and help minority students overcome hurdles along their career path. Carole Simpson Scholarship winners are working as reporters, producers and anchors in television and radio stations across the country.

Simpson retired from ABC News in 2006 to become Leader-in-Residence at Emerson College’s School of Communications in Boston. In a career of notable firsts, in 1992 Simpson became the first woman and the first African American to moderate a presidential debate. She is completing a book on her 40 years as a pioneering African American woman in the field of journalism. Simpson is a commentator for National Public Radio and a frequent political analyst on “Larry King Live.” In 1996, Simpson receive the Leonard Zeidenberg First Amendment Award in recognition of her work to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Ed Bradley Scholarship
In 1994, RTDNF presented the first Ed Bradley Scholarship. Since then, 18 young and aspiring journalists have received the award created by the late CBS News and 60 Minutes correspondent.

Ed Bradley received the Paul White Award from RTDNA in 2000. The Paul White Award recognizes an individual’s lifetime commitment to excellence in journalism. Bradley received the First Amendment Award from RTDNF in 2005 in recognition of his support of the First Amendment rights guaranteed in the Constitution.

The Abe Schechter Graduate Scholarship

About the Scholarship
Abe Schechter, a true pioneer of radio news, became the first vice president of news for NBC. He began his career in newspapers, then moved to radio. During World War II, he became senior public relations officer for General MacArthur. He eventually returned to NBC where he helped create the Today show. From there, he became part owner of the Mutual Broadcasting System. In the 1960s Schechter founded a PR firm that he and his business partner, former RTDNF Trustee George Glazer, subsequently sold to Hill & Knowlton. Schechter and his wife died in a car accident in 1989, and this $2,000 scholarship was established in his memory. Deadline is May 31, 2013.

Videographer Needed- PAID
The ASU Downtown Programming and Activities Board has an event on Saturday, February 16th from 6:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. for Black History Month called Hip Hop: Our Story. This event will feature Minister Server Tavares, who is going to speak on the history of hip hop and the foundation of that culture and how it has changed through pop culture. The event is taking place in the Student Center at the Post Office, San Carlos room 135. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and will end between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. You must have video equipment and be at the location by 5:30 p.m.

Chicago Cubs- Spring Training Volunteer
The Chicago Cubs are looking for one or possibly two volunteers to assist in the onsite production of 26 spring training games between Feb 24-March 28th. This is a volunteer opportunity but offers hands on experience in the sports broadcasting/journalism field. The right candidate will be hardworking, dependable and have a positive attitude. Experience in radio broadcasting, or television production is a major plus but not required.
