Most, if not all, companies require that a student receive course credit for any internship work performed at the company. Please keep in mind that you must first complete JMC 101 (Grammar for Journalists) and JMC 110 (Principles of History of Journalism) to be eligible for MCO 294 internship credit. If you have not completed JMC 101 and JMC 110, you are not eligible for internship credit.

AFTER CRONKITE
Professionals will give career advice on how to prepare for the job market two times during the spring 2012 semester. The 7-week class is called “AFTER CRONKITE” and will focus on resume and cover letter writing, creating a marketable portfolio, job interviewing, what you should look for in a benefits package, how to read a contract and how to market yourself through your brand. We also discuss salaries for certain markets and certain positions. If you are within one year of graduating, you should consider this course.

INTERNSHIPS

Multimedia Journalism Internship with SABR
The Society for American Baseball Research is seeking an intern with journalism and multimedia skills. The ideal candidate will produce and edit content to be displayed on our website at SABR.org, working with our Web Content Editor/Producer and other staff members.

This internship will include responsibilities across a variety of disciplines:

-Interviewing SABR members and other figures in the baseball research community
-Writing and editing stories
-Taking photographs and shooting/editing video
-Posting content online using the Drupal content management system
-Engaging the baseball research community through social media and other platforms
-Helping to develop special editorial projects for SABR.org
-Working on-site at a local SABR event, such as the spring baseball analytics conference or Arizona Fall League Conference

Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate basic office-related computer skills. Proficiency with image-editing, word-processing and spreadsheet software and basic HTML knowledge is a plus.

A working knowledge of baseball, and an awareness of the game’s general history and basic statistics, is required.

Fall 2012 Internship- Video Production- Paid
The Media Relations Department of the Superior Court of Arizona is looking for an experienced, creative intern to work alongside our Multimedia Journalist Kelly Vail to create fun and informative videos for the Court’s YouTube page. You will be reporting on court processes and events both inside and outside of the courtroom, and assisting in managing the media during high profile court cases. We are looking for juniors or seniors who have already taken JMC 345 and are comfortable using Final Cut Pro. Candidates must have strong story-telling skills, in writing and shooting, with an interest in the justice system. This internship is paid, flexible and requires 15 hours a week. Dress code is business casual.

Editorial interns at Arizona Highways magazine work primarily on the “Journal” department, crafting nature and history stories and interviewing celebrities for our monthly Q&A. Echo Magazine seeks journalism students for reporter/writer internships.
Interns will get a variety of assignments, while learning about publication of a niche magazine. Assignments will include news stories, event previews, feature stories and profiles. Times Higher Education magazine is running a short-video competition open to anyone who studies or works at a university as part of the official launch of the World University Rankings 2012-13. Deadline is September 12.

You can win an iPad and the chance for your short film to feature in the official launch video for Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings. The video will be broadcast on the rankings website http://bit.ly/thewur, which reaches a global audience of millions.

We are looking for individual students, students’ unions, university faculty and administrative staff to make a 10-second video that completes the sentence: “My university is world-class because…”

Films may focus on any of the qualities at which your institution excels – these could include teaching, research, access, diversity, sport and social life. We encourage you to draw on any and all creative and technical resources you have available on campus.

This is your chance to show the world the inventiveness, imagination and innovation that set your institution apart.

All eligible entered videos will be broadcast on Times Higher Education’s YouTube channel, but we also plan to feature a small number of our favourites in our official World University Rankings 2012-13 video, which will be broadcast on the home page of the World University Rankings website. One overall winning entry will be selected by the editor of the rankings, and the film-maker will receive an iPad.
