Cronkite-NBC Internship in NYC
The Cronkite – NBC News Internship Fall 2012
Spend the semester at NBC News and gain the experience needed to start your journalism career as a Cronkite/NBC News Intern. NBC Universal and The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication now offer two New York internships to work on the network’s top shows for a semester. Applications must be received by June 29, 2012, for the fall 2012 semester, so apply soon.

Additional Information:
•Placement may be made on any NBC News program.
•Internship is unpaid. Students are required to register the internship for academic credit from Arizona State University prior to starting the assignment. This registration is required to receive the scholarship.
•The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication has scholarships available up to $2000 per student to help defray living costs in New York City.

Paid Public Relations Internship
Torres Marquez Communications (TMC) is one of Arizona’s fastest-growing marketing and public relations firms specializing in helping clients reach the burgeoning Hispanic market. This independent, Latina-owned agency has its finger on the pulse of the local Latino community and knows the channels through which to reach them. Formed in 2009, its team of Hispanic communications professionals has more than 45 years of collective experience in public relations, community outreach, graphic design and translations.

This is a paid internship opportunity available from June 2012 to September 2012.

Requirements/Skills: The student must be fully bilingual (English and Spanish), demonstrate the ability to undertake basic public relations writing assignments, posses an understanding of basic media relations skills, able to master Facebook, Twitter and online social platforms. TMC Interns are expected to:

A basic level of familiarity with AP style; story organization and reporting ability is required for our interns. Interns are encouraged to come up with their own story ideas as well to pitch to the internship coordinator (Josh Coddington) throughout their time here. It is not required, but typically makes for better stories. Interns are also encouraged, but not required, to take photos for stories on which they report. Equipment will be provided. Other stories/assignments as assigned. We strive to treat our interns just like newspaper staff members. Here is a brief description of intern duties. Interns are not limited to just the items above, as there are typically lots of opportunities to cover events and press conferences as well.

Scheduling/Time:
Interns are expected to devise a set schedule and stick to that schedule as much as possible. Interns must communicate effectively with the internship coordinators at the Capitol Times. Interns are welcome to take time away from their duties here as needed, provided the intern informs the internship coordinators beforehand.

AZ Big Media (Summer-3, Fall-2)
REQUIREMENTS

Successful candidates will be working on our numerous publications, including Arizona Business Magazine, AZRE: Commercial Real Estate Magazine, Scottsdale Living, Experience AZ, Ranking Arizona, AZTech Magazine, and Play Ball. Interns will have the opportunity to write bylined articles for publication, assist editors on projects, fact check, perform data entry, proof read, and work with the art department on photo shoots. Candidates also will write Web-exclusive articles and rewrite press releases for AZ Big Media’s online platforms. Interns will learn about the overall workings of a publishing company under the tutelage of editors, administrators and art directors. They will receive regular feedback on their performance and writing skills. Interns may also be asked to help work at several off-site, after-hour events. This includes at least one weekend event.

Position Summary: In order to be an intern with CBS 5 News, you must be studying journalism at an accredited university. You must also be receiving school credit for your internship. You need to be a Junior or Senior in school and be able to work at least 20 hours per week. In the spring and fall semesters, there is a bi-weekly report about what was learned in each section of the internship plus a final evaluation. In the summer, reports are due weekly. There is no winter session.

The internship is designed to teach a prospective web editor what it takes to put a news story online. 1. Write and publish stories for KPHO.com 2. Actively investigate stories and confirm facts before writing stories for KPHO.com 3. Edit video clips and assign to designated categories 4. Edit photos and create slideshows 5. Business Journal interns work on a variety of assignments, ranging from short profiles to full-length news feature stories to daily breaking web stories. They are part of our newsroom and fully integrated into the day-to-day staff meetings and story discussion process.

Interns report directly to the managing editor, but will work with our Web editor, copy editor and project editors on a variety of assignments. Interns are encouraged to follow local business news and pitch their own stories ideas after they have researched the topic and what kind of local coverage it has received.

We seek exclusive news for the local business community, and we strive to get all of our interns at least one Page 1 story during their time with us. We strongly prefer that our interns have some previous internship experience and know the fundamentals of writing a story, checking facts and story structure. It’s also preferred that interns have an interest in business journalism and have some basic knowledge of financial statements and terms such as revenue vs. profit, stock shares, etc.

Our website has grown tremendously in the past few years and we recently underwent a major redesign across all 40 of our markets. We have a great opportunity for interns with multimedia experience to promote our website via Twitter, Facebook and Linked In, as well as take photos, shoot and edit video and handle some Web updates.

We are no longer a newspaper company, but an information company, and our interns have the opportunity to apply these skills in a variety of areas. Many of our interns have gone on to prestigious jobs in the industry, including CNN Money, the Los Angeles Times, the Oregonian in Portland and more.

Description: Assist project manager with monthly Advisory Council meeting. Prepare invitations, order catering, compile agendas and name tags, coordinate venues, and correspond with attendees. Attend meetings second Monday of every month. Maintain Advisory Council roster accurately.

Qualifications: event planning experience required. Some knowledge of Excel and list management helpful. Great communications skills a must.

Time Requirements: Need to be in the Voter Engagement office two full days each month, around the second Monday, to prepare for meetings, and additional work from home as needed.

Description: assist communications team with various digital projects, including updating website content, managing videos, creating podcasts, and other digital projects. Assist with social networking efforts.

Phoenix’s Eating Disorder Awareness Walk is looking for a Fall semester, part-time underclassman social media-savvy intern. This position is non-paid and can be done from home. The student needs to be highly self-motivated, proactive and able to learn quickly. They will help maintain our Twitter, Blog, Facebook & Pinterest sites as the time for the second annual walk approaches.

The intern’s work would greatly effect the eating disorder awareness efforts in the Valley and would produce nearly immediate clips. The Walk’s followers on Facebook, Twitter, and the WordPress-based blog is growing and would give this student the opportunity to help cultivate a stronger following. This student would also have the opportunity to fine-tune their creative writing skills and utilize any other medium experience they have.

The position will require between 8-15 hours of work a week. Most communication between myself and the student will be done via telephone and email. Meetings will happen as needed. Although this position is light on the workload, there is potential for more hours and more experience based on the skill-set of the student.
