The Data Doctors
The Data Doctors Radio Program internship helps enhances the abilities for students as multi-media journalists. They will have a better understanding of how a smaller radio show works and what it takes to produce a program at this level. Videos are a growing aspect of media and at Data Doctors we are taking advantage of this by creating videos on many different topics. Position Summary: In order to be an intern with CBS 5 News, you must be studying journalism at an accredited university. You must also be receiving school credit for your internship. In the spring and fall semesters, there is a bi-weekly report about what was learned in each section of the internship plus a final evaluation. In the summer, reports are due weekly. There is no winter session.

Business Journal interns work on a variety of assignments, ranging from short profiles to full-length news feature stories to daily breaking web stories. They are part of our newsroom and fully integrated into the day-to-day staff meetings and story discussion process.

Interns report directly to the managing editor, but will work with our Web editor, copy editor and project editors on a variety of assignments. Interns are encouraged to follow local business news and pitch their own stories ideas after they have researched the topic and what kind of local coverage it has received.

We seek exclusive news for the local business community, and we strive to get all of our interns at least one Page 1 story during their time with us. We strongly prefer that our interns have some previous internship experience and know the fundamentals of writing a story, checking facts and story structure. It’s also preferred that interns have an interest in business journalism and have some basic knowledge of financial statements and terms such as revenue vs. profit, stock shares, etc.

Our website has grown tremendously in the past few years and we recently underwent a major redesign across all 40 of our markets. We have a great opportunity for interns with multimedia experience to promote our website via Twitter, Facebook and Linked In, as well as take photos, shoot and edit video and handle some Web updates.

Thinking Arizona

Thinking Arizona is a non-partisan website that covers public policy, using an analytical approach. The intern will contribute a significant amount to the News Tracker feature, which aggregates news developments on the public-policy topics (e.g., elections, state budgets) covered by the website. The intern should have an interest in state government and public policy.

Responsibilities include tracking news sources, writing news summaries, and reporting/writing stories that otherwise would go uncovered. The job requires a small amount of attention each weekday, which can be done from home in Phoenix. Additional time to be devoted on a spot basis to original reporting.

The Media Relations Department of the Superior Court of Arizona is looking for an experienced, creative summer intern to work alongside our Multimedia Journalist to create fun and informative videos for the Court’s YouTube page. You will be reporting on court processes and events both inside and outside of the courtroom, and assisting in managing the media during high profile court cases. We are looking for juniors or seniors who have already taken JMC 345 and are comfortable using Final Cut Pro. Candidates must have strong story-telling skills, in writing and shooting, with an interest in the justice system. This internship is paid and requires 15-20 hours a week. Dress code is business casual.

Responsibilities
The research department is an excellent place to get an idea of how magazine publishing works. The intern must be detail-oriented and have a passion for sports. Daily duties could include assisting editors by gathering news clips, researching stories, developing ideas for the College Football and NFL Previews, and other special projects.
Basic Qualifications
You must be currently matriculating within a degree program and in good academic standing; available for employment within 12 months of the internship. Graduation date of August 2012, December 2012, or May 2013. Intern must be able to provide his/her own transportation to and from work.
Preferred Qualifications
Pursuing a B.A. in the field of communications, journalism, new media or related majors. Some reporting and writing experience needed (school and/or local paper, blogs, etc.) Familiarity with such online research services as Factiva and Nexis. Experience working in a professional office environment.

Pulliam/Kilgore Freedom of Information Internship
The Society of Professional Journalists annually awards two Pulliam/Kilgore Freedom of Information Internships. One intern works in the offices of the Society’s First Amendment legal counsel in Washington, D.C. The other intern works at the Society’s National Headquarters in Indianapolis.

The interns research and write about freedom of information issues while assisting the Society’s Freedom of Information Committee and First Amendment legal counsel in preparing SPJ’s annual Freedom of Information Report. Other responsibilities may include working on the SPJ Web site and assisting with SPJ programs and initiatives.Interns receive a stipend of $400 per week and work during a mutually agreeable 10-week period during the summer. Announcement for Graduate Students in Journalism:
FASPE (Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics), in collaboration with The Museum of Jewish Heritage—A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, is now accepting applications for a fellowship designed to challenge graduate students in journalism to consider contemporary ethical issues using the conduct of journalists in Nazi Germany as a framework. Fellowships include an all-expense paid trip from New York to Berlin, Krakow, and Oświęcim (Auschwitz) where students will work with leading faculty to explore both the history and the ethical issues facing their profession today. All program costs, including international and European travel, lodging, and food, are covered.

The tentative program dates for FASPE Journalism are May 20 – June 1, 2012.

Kroc Fellowship
What is a Kroc Fellowship?
The Kroc Fellowship is a year-long, intensive training program designed to bring exceptional people into the public radio system.
Why is it called a “Kroc” Fellowship?
The Fellowships have been made possible by a bequest to NPR from Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald’s Corporation founder Ray A. Kroc. In 2003, Mrs. Kroc left NPR more than $200 million, which — among other things — is being used to deepen and strengthen the NPR News and Digital Media Divisions.
Who is eligible to apply?
Kroc Fellowships are open to students who are just completing college or graduate school, or who have been out of school for one year or less as of December 31, 2011. In other words, anyone getting a degree between January 1, 2011 and Spring 2012 would be eligible. But someone whose degree was awarded before January 1, 2011 — even a few days before — would not be eligible
What are the deadlines?
Applications must be postmarked by midnight, December 31st, 2011. In late Spring 2012, finalists will be brought to Washington — at NPR’s expense — to take part in interviews with the Kroc Fellowship committee. Kroc Fellows will be notified by May 2012. Acceptances are due by May 31, 2012.
