From their first day in The Times’ program, interns are treated like professionals. They are assigned stories, given lists of contacts and sources, and encouraged to generate their own ideas for stories, photos and graphics. They also receive one-on-one supervision and guidance from veteran editors and reporters.

Unpaid internships, which require that students receive curriculum credit for their work, are available throughout the year. A small number of paid internships will be available for eight weeks each summer. Interns are required to arrange their housing and transportation to and from Washington.
